The Talon is taking a break for the summer!

The Talon editorial collective would like to sincerely thank everyone who supported us in our first year – whether you read our articles, attended our events, shared our pieces, sent messages of praise, made necessary call-outs and critiques, or anything in between. Without you all, we would not have been able to grow in our first year as we did. Since our launch in late September, we have published over 150 articles with topics ranging from decolonization to QTIPOC issues, reached nearly 1500 likes on Facebook and nearly 600 followers on Twitter, and, most of all, have been lucky enough to have driven countless important conversations on campus.

After an eventful run for the past 8 months, we will be taking a publishing break for the summer months. Even so, there are several ways to engage with us until our return in September:

1. Come out to this panel on Sunday May 17th, which we helped Safe Amp organize. Along with some other rad local media outlets, we will be answering your questions about DIY/alternative media in Vancouver!

2. Keep your eyes peeled for our Best-of Print Edition! The release date is TBD, but it’s going to be a selection of our articles from the past year – in an IRL, print format!

3. We’ll still be writing up event previews over the summer. If you are organizing a rad event, or otherwise think there’s one we should know about, shoot us an e-mail (talonubc@gmail.com) or a Facebook message.

4. Get started on an article! Though we won’t be able to edit articles as rapidly over the summer, we’ll still be recruiting submissions to be published when school resumes. If you’re considering writing a piece and want some feedback or edits, please get in touch.

And finally, thanks to all those that applied to be on the collective next year. We will be contacting you all in the next few weeks!

We hope everyone has a ~radical~ summer, and we’ll see you in September for more rabble-rousing!
