Glen Coulthard’s new book Red Skin, White Masks: Rejecting the Colonial Politics of Recognition is some pretty ground-breaking work. Coulthard, a professor in the First Nations Studies Program and the Department of Political Science at UBC, is an acclaimed academic and theorist. His newest project aims to investigate, “a radically decolonial politics that is less oriented around attaining an affirmative form of recognition and institutional accommodation by the colonial-state and society, and more about critically revaluing, reconstructing and redeploying Indigenous cultural practices in ways that seek to prefigure radical alternatives to the symbolic and structural violence that continues to dispossess our nations of lands, political authority, and lives.”

The Simon Fraser Public Interest Research Group and Fat Panic! Vancouver is hosting a workshop that integrates “facilitated discussion, writing exercises, and just a little bit of (optional) theatre to explore what fatness has come to mean in our society, and how fat oppression, in conjunction with many other patterns of injustice, works to shape our day to day lives, including our relationships with other people and our own bodies.” Advanced registration is required.
