  1. Capitalism is the Crisis: Radical Politics in the Age of Austerity — Screening and Discussion

First screening of the year by Cinema Politica UBC and it promises to be a good one. The film documents the capitalist crisis and modern resistance movements “in the search for an alternative way of organizing societies in our growing and ever-globalized world.” There will also be two speakers for this event:

-Glen Coulthard (Assistant professor in the First Nations Studies Program and the Department of Political Science at UBC and author of Red Skin, White Masks)

-Tamo Campos (Founder of the collective Beyond Boarding)

  1. Trans Day of Remembrance 2014 (UBC)

November 20th is the annual Trans Day of Remembrance, a day “to honour those who have been lost to violence as a result of transphobia and to bring to attention the ongoing violence and oppression that trans people continue to face.” A ceremony will be held by Pride UBC for the occasion. Starting with workshops on trans allyship and intra-trans solidarity discussion in the SUB ballroom at 3, the event will conclude with a vigil, open mic/speakers, and a panel discussion from 5-7:30 in the SUB Art Gallery on the first floor of the SUB.   1. #iamastudent Carnival Against the Hikes

Come party to raise awareness about the tuition and residence fee hikes! Laydy Jams, Zen Mystery Fogg, Filthy Liars, Purple Hearts Social Club, and ATSEA perform. There will also be twister, face paint, popcorn, an open canvas for art and an opportunity to learn about the increases.
